   Obituary Mentioning Misdiagnosis

Gerald “Jerry” Morford died Nov. 3, 2022 in Anytown, Calif. He was only 48 years old.

Jerry’s loved ones are struggling to find peace in his passing, due to the fact that the illness that took him was initially misdiagnosed multiple times by multiple well-meaning but sadly misinformed medical providers.

Jerry was born July 15, 1974. He spent the first 10 years of his life in the Sacramento suburbs before moving to Anytown in the mid-1980s when his father, Barton, secured a position as a professor of biology at Anytown State University. Jerry’s mother, a dedicated community volunteer, passed away from colon cancer in 2015.

Despite his STEM-minded dad’s good-natured teasing, Jerry chose to pursue an education in the humanities. He graduated with honors from University of California at Anytown and immediately began a career as a museum assistant director and then director. In the late 2010s, he spearheaded the securing of several key collections for the Anytown History Museum, including a coveted allosaurus skull from the Upper Jurassic Morrison Formation in Utah.

Jerry’s biggest love was always his family. He married Cassandra (“Cassie”) Dawson in 1998, and they were jokingly referred to as “the JC crew.” The moniker continued after the births of their sons Jessie and Carson.

Jerry is survived by his father, his wife, and his sons.

Rather than sending flowers, Jerry’s loved ones encourage those who wish to honor his memory to know their bodies, be fierce advocates in medical settings, and if a second opinion doesn’t make sense, get a third and a fourth. Don’t stop until you have answers.

A funeral service will be held on Dec. 15 at 2 p.m. at Anytown Community Church.
