Marilla Jensen died Aug. 17, 2020, in Anytown, AZ, at the age of 106 years.
Marilla's goal in her final years was to outlive her best friend and archrival, fellow Anytown Care Home resident Carlotta Masterson. Her last words were, "Take that, Carlotta."
Marilla was born in 1914 in Yuma, Arizona. She attended Yuma Union High School where she was a cheerleader for the infamous Criminals football team. She attended James E. Rogers College of Law and was one of its first female graduates, a fact that annoyed her. Marilla practiced law at O'Leary, Rau, and Smith until she was appointed by the state governor to serve as an appellate court judge. She was re-elected a record eight times before retiring.
She collected vintage gavels and loved gardening, even in the extreme Arizona heat.
She is survived by her best friend, Carlotta, and her nephews Farley and Gerald. She was preceded in death by her parents, six siblings, and two nieces. No services are planned.
